Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been
passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of
Scotland. In Brave, a new tale is told when the courageous Merida
confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of
beasts.
Magical costumes
With
five dresses, plus a cloak, necklace and torn
dresses, lead character Merida, has a total of 22 costume
changes!
Earthy auburn locks
Merida has five different hair styles in the film and, if her
curls were straightened, her hair would be four feet long
and reach the middle of her calf.

Regal attire
Merida’s formal dress was tailored to be tightly fitted
and constricting with stiffer fabric, to show Queen
Elinor’s controlling influence on her. The hem is
decorated with beads and jewels.
In a house...no she lives in a castle!
No Pixar film before Brave has had a castle in it, so the
DunBroch castle had to be designed from scratch.
Everything from the architecture of the structure itself to
the tapestries on the walls was designed and built as 3D
models in a computer.
Doric
Merida is from the Scottish Highlands and Doric is a regional dialect often spoken by people who live there. Lord MacGuffin, a character in the film, speaks Doric (and it's very tricky to understand him!).
Attitude
Merida has a strong spirit and a good heart. She fights for her own freedom and independence.
